Bad news for residents of Boulder, Colorado where a new gun control law that would ban the sale or possession of “assault rifle” firearms was recently signed into law. It also prohibits high-capacity magazines and bump stocks.
This applies to several gun models of course, but the emphasis is placed on the AR-15 which has gained an unjust reputation among gun-grabbers of being the spookiest, scariest, most bloodthirsty gun ever made.
The Boulder City Council passed the new law with a unanimous vote and the vote was cast after a five hour long meeting where the new bill was being discussed.
Almost 150 people signed up to speak at the meeting where they provided their opinions which were either for or against the proposed bill, though only 111 of them actually had the chance to speak at the meeting.
One of the Boulder residents who spoke out against the proposed bill pointed out how similar laws were passed in other places and failed to achieve their intended goal.
For example, he pointed out that many places which “require” people to register their firearms have no way of actually enforcing it…resulting in no action being taken at all. Almost as if the law didn’t exist in the first place.
Many see the new gun control law as a knee jerk reaction to the shooting at Marjory Stoneman High School in Parkland, Florida.
However, Boulder Councilwoman Jill Adler Grano had this to say about the new law, “This is not a knee jerk reaction. If it were a knee jerk reaction, it would have come after the first mass shooting and there have been hundreds. I think it’s time to say ‘enough'”.
She went on further to say that Boulder’s new law doesn’t strip residents of their 2nd Amendment rights because the 2nd Amendment “doesn’t guarantee the right to an assault rifle”.
It’s surprising that this law passed with such a flimsy argument. Following that logic, they could ban any gun because the 2nd Amendment doesn’t specifically mention any types of guns.
Pouring salt in the wound, she also mentioned that the new law is a “no brainer”.
No, this law is not a “no brainer” at all. In fact, it doesn’t make any sense at all. All you would have to do is look at similar laws that have been passed in other places to see that this type of legislation doesn’t work, and never will work because the principle behind it is flawed.
