One of the most confusing parts of gun ownership for new gun owners comes from understanding all the different calibers of ammunition, what type their guns can shoot, and which ones are best for them. And a couple of calibers that cause a lot of this confusion are the .223 Remington and the 5.56mm NATO rounds because they’re so similar to each other. Much of this confusion with these two calibers is a result of them being able to be used interchangeably. Think of the .223 Remington as the “civilian” version of the 5.56 NATO round. The only problem that occurs is when a 5.56 NATO round is used in a barrel chambered for .223 Remington because the difference in pressure can be worn down faster. However, most shooters won’t even notice this and it’s not an urgent problem. In broad terms, the 5.56 NATO simply has a different type…

According to gun-grabbers, it’s not enough to simply require background checks for gun purchases. Now they want background checks for ammo purchases as well. Florida’s Debbie Wasserman Schultz and Connecticut’s Richard Blumenthal proposed a new measure that would force those who want to buy ammo to undergo a background check from the FBI’s National Instant Background Check System. According to supporters of the ammo bill, it would leave would-be criminals with a gun without any ammo. Here’s what Blumenthal said about his proposal: Ammunition sales should be subject to the same legal requirements as firearm sales, and that includes instant background checks. The same laws that prevent dangerous individuals from purchasing firearms also prohibit them from amassing arsenals of ammunition, with one major loophole: there are no background checks for ammunition sales to enforce the law. As you can imagine, if something like this were passed into law, the would cause…

There is now even more active gun control in our country thanks to the laws recently passed in Rhode Island. Two Rhode Island bills have been signed into law: S.2292 and S.2492. The new laws ban bump stocks and also set up what’s known as “red flag laws”…a way of seizing guns from those who are suspected of being “dangerous”. The laws encountered no resistance and were passed unanimously by Rhode Island’s senate, which is controlled by Democrats. Here’s what Governor Gina Raimondo said about the laws she signed into effect: I applaud the General Assembly for standing with our kids, teachers, law enforcement and parents across the state by taking action to strengthen Rhode Island’s gun law. Their action to ban bump stocks and pass a red flag law will make Rhode Island a safer state. Rhode Island’s new bump stock ban would outlaw all sliding style butt-stocks that allow…

Greg Abbott, the Republican Governor of Texas, has been busy these past few days attending a roundtable discussion for three days. The reason for holding the roundtable is in response to the Santa Fe school shooting. The aim is to determine how to prevent future school shootings from happening and how to keep kids safe while in school. When it comes to responses to school shootings lately, the response seems to be to create more gun control laws and limit the rights of citizens even further… However, the 44-page plan that resulted from the roundtable meeting emphasizes school security and mental health treatment for students, and is surprisingly relaxed on gun control. According to Governor Abbott, the 44-page plan is a “starting point, not an ending place. He also said that Texas schools can implement many of the strategies in the plan without needing to wait for legislative approval, and…

Recently, short barreled rifles and AR pistols have been gaining a lot of popularity with shooters. However, regular 5.56 NATO rounds won’t work as well on those guns because of their shorter barrels. The good news is that Hornady has released a new round that works with the shorter barrel, and shooters love it. It’s called Hornady Black HD SBR. Hornady’s new bullet has bullets that are heavier than traditional 5.56 NATO rounds, and use low-flash low-fouling powder. The new round offers those with short barrel rifles and AR pistols both accuracy and terminal performance. While this seems like a new round to civilians, Hornady has actually been making and selling this round to law enforcement for years now under a different name called Hornady TAP SBR. Hornady’s SBR round uses its own proprietary propellant technology in order to ensure proper pressure in a short barrel gun, which can be…

With the increased frequency of school shootings lately, many people have been left scratching their heads and wondering why this type of thing is happening in the first place. The left blames guns, of course, but we know the real reason for the increase frequency of school shootings is caused by something else. Instead, the real reason for school shootings is much more psychological…and it relates heavily to the news media that lives on hype. We all know that it’s a tiny fraction of the population that commits horrible crimes like this…but with an American population of 350,000,000 people, even a tiny fraction amounts to a sizable chunk of people these days. Of course, it isn’t just because of the population. It has a lot to do with “feelings of insignificance”, which is further fueled by the media. When someone is feeling insignificant and is desperate for attention, they don’t…

As anyone who carries a concealed handgun knows, there are different places that you can keep your holster, and they all offer different advantages and disadvantages. For example, many people choose to carry their concealed handgun with a chest holster or an inside-the-waistband holster. Some even choose to use an ankle holster. However, one type of concealed carry that many people overlook is the appendix holster. Appendix carry is very similar to inside-the-waistband carry, but the difference is that with appendix carry, the gun sits in front of you rather than on your side. It’s a small difference, but one that makes a huge difference in comfort and performance. First, let’s answer the question “why would you ever want to appendix carry?” Appendix carry has a huge advantage over all the other areas you can concealed carry, and that’s the fact that you can draw your gun with a completely…

With so many school shootings happening lately, many places have been “cracking down” on guns in an effort to stop them. However, the state of Arkansas has decided to do something that we’ve known would work all along…and that’s to allow campus carry. Arkansas’ new campus carry law, Act 562, allows people to get an additional certification that allows them to carry a firearm on campus. The additional certification consists of eight hours of additional training and a graded live-fire course. Rather than result in a massive bloodbath like many anti-gunners predicted, the new law seems to be working out just fine with no issues at all so far. So far, universities and colleges in Arkansas have gone through a full semester with the new campus carry law in effect. Here’s what Captain Chris Bentley of the University of Central Arkansas Police Department had to say about the situation: “We have…

The 6.5 Creedmoor has been making waves among shooters for it’s long range accuracy. It’s a round that has truly earned its place in shooters’ guns. But now, there’s a new type of Creedmoor round that’s positioning itself as a serious competitor to the wildly popular 6.5 Creedmoor. Its called the 6mm Creedmoor. Well, actually, the 6mm isn’t a “new” round by any means. It’s already been around for quite a few years, but it has been so obscure and hard to find that it might as well be considered as being new. The 6mm Creedmoor was created by John Snow, the author of Outdoor Life, and was designed to be a long range round. He created the 6mm Creedmoor so he could write a feature article about it in Outdoor Life. Here’s what Snow says about creating the 6mm Creedmoor: “My ambitions for this wildcat extended no further than…

You’ve seen the 2nd Amendment come under fire before and you’ve even seen efforts to see it get changed…but have you ever seen anyone deny its existence and call it “imaginary”? If not, you’re in for a real treat because that’s exactly what happened recently. And not with some random anti-gunner off the street, but with a high-profile politician. As you’re probably already aware, there was recently a school shooting at Santa Fe High School in Texas. The savage attack killed 10 students and left many more injured. The psychopath who carried out this attack was a 17 year old student who attended the high school. But rather than focus on the shooter and what’s causing these attacks to happen, gun grabbers are going after the 2nd Amendment. One Democrat gun grabber who is very vocal about his views on gun control goes as far as to say that the…
